The Executive Secretary of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and Head of Mission of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Ambassador Mamman Nuhu, has extended heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Nigeria, following the passing of the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
In an official statement issued by the Chief Military Public Information Officer of the MNJTF, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, on Tuesday, 16 July 2025, Ambassador Nuhu described the late President Buhari as a visionary statesman whose steadfast leadership left a lasting imprint on the Lake Chad Basin’s security, integration, and developmental goals.
Ambassador Nuhu highlighted that President Buhari’s unwavering commitment to regional cooperation was instrumental in revitalizing the MNJTF, significantly strengthening the fight against Boko Haram and other terrorist groups threatening peace in the region.
He stated, “His Excellency’s bold advocacy for the restoration of Lake Chad and his consistent call for international support underscored his deep concern for the socio-economic welfare of the people living in the Lake Chad Basin.”
The envoy noted that former President Buhari’s enduring legacy of peacebuilding, statesmanship, and security cooperation would continue to serve as a guiding light for leaders across Nigeria and the broader region.
“In this moment of grief,” Ambassador Nuhu said, “the LCBC and MNJTF join the good people of Nigeria in honoring the memory of a distinguished leader.”
He prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives the former president’s shortcomings, accepts his good deeds, and grants him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdausi.
