The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced an investigation into reports of alleged civilian casualties following an air strike conducted on April 11, 2026, in Jilli, Borno State.
In a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Service acknowledged claims that the operation may have affected a local market, potentially resulting in civilian harm. The NAF emphasized that it treats all reports of possible civilian casualties with utmost seriousness, stressing that the protection of innocent lives remains a core priority in all its operations.
According to the statement, the Chief of the Air Staff has directed the immediate activation of the Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation Cell (CHAI-Cell) to proceed to the affected location for a comprehensive fact-finding mission into the allegations.
The Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and transparency, noting that it would collaborate closely with relevant authorities and community representatives to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
While the investigation is ongoing, the NAF urged the public and media to avoid speculation and allow due process to take its course. It also reassured citizens of its continued resolve to safeguard national security while ensuring that all credible concerns are thoroughly addressed.
