The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has stepped up efforts to tighten border security in the North-East, renewing its commitment to stronger collaboration with the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in Borno and Yobe States.
The renewed partnership was announced during a courtesy visit by the Customs Area Controller for Borno and Yobe States, Controller Abdullahi Mohammed Idris, to the OPHK Headquarters on Thursday, February 12, 2026. The visit was confirmed in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.
Controller Idris said the visit was aimed at deepening synergy between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Armed Forces of Nigeria to strengthen border management. He revealed that the Service had deployed Geo-Partial Surveillance Technology across Nigeria’s land and sea borders to boost monitoring and rapid response, while seeking continued guidance and operational support from OPHK in the North-East.
He also acknowledged the Nigerian Army’s role in the establishment of the Nigerian Customs Service Staff College and its contributions to personnel capacity building. Expressing appreciation for the warm reception, he noted that enhanced collaboration would further improve security along the nation’s borders.
Responding, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, commended the NCS for its critical role in safeguarding Nigeria’s borders. He stressed that porous borders remain a major security threat due to the influx of small arms and light weapons, reaffirming OPHK’s commitment to sustained multi-agency cooperation.
The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ register and exchange of souvenirs.
