The Commander Corps of Signals, Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, on Saturday, 27 September 2025, undertook an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Maiduguri, Borno State. The visit forms part of efforts to strengthen communication support for ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North East, in line with the directives of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.
In a statement by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Major General Ugbo stated that his visit aimed to assess the installation, maintenance, and protection of critical communication infrastructure within the theatre. He added that the assessment also provided an opportunity to interact with field commanders and evaluate ongoing signals projects supporting the operations.
The Commander emphasized the importance of maintaining and protecting Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities, communication equipment, and related enablers. According to him, these assets are essential for effective coordination, intelligence sharing, and command systems that ensure operational success. He assured the Theatre Command of the Corps of Signals’ continuous commitment to providing robust and innovative communication solutions that enhance the fight against insurgency.
Responding, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, commended Major General Ugbo for his foresight and commitment to improving operational communication support. He described communication as the “backbone of successful military operations” and assured that all critical infrastructure under OPHK would be adequately protected. Major General Abubakar expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen the operational capacity and overall success of the mission in the North East.
Earlier in the visit, the Commander 57 Signal Brigade, Brigadier General Nelson Okafor, briefed the Commander Corps of Signals on the Brigade’s ongoing activities. He highlighted achievements in the deployment of communication equipment and ICT enablers across the theatre, noting that these developments had greatly improved command and control functions within Operation HADIN KAI.
The visit featured operational briefings, the signing of the visitors’ book, exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs with Sector Commanders, Component Commanders, and Principal Staff Officers of OPHK.
