OLUYEDE REAFFIRMS SOLDIER-FIRST CONCEPT, COMMENDS TROOPS IN ANTI-OIL THEFT OPERATIONS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has concluded a three-day operational visit to formations under the 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), where he commissioned a number of landmark projects initiated and executed by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, alongside subordinate commanders.

In a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army Chief, while at Port Harcourt Barracks, inaugurated the Headquarters 6 Division Office Complex Extension and the Python Harmony Centre.

He also commissioned several welfare and infrastructural projects delivered by the 6 Division Garrison under Brigadier General S. Ahmed. These included two newly constructed 10-family Corporal and Below Quarters (CBQs), seven remodeled CBQs, a remodeled Cantonment Office, and a Petroleum Oil Lubricant Point. At the 29 Battalion, he further unveiled a remodeled Quarter Guard and 10-unit CBQs, among other projects.

At 16 Brigade in Bayelsa State, the COAS commissioned the newly built Brigade Annex Complex executed by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Oluremi Obolo.

He also inaugurated an electrification project facilitated by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as part of its corporate social responsibility.

In addition, he unveiled a Garrison House constructed by Lieutenant Colonel Sheriff Kaigama, the remodeled 5 Battalion Quarter Guard, the refurbished Commanding Officer’s residence at 343 Artillery Regiment, and a newly installed transformer.

The Army Chief also performed the groundbreaking ceremony for 20 units of two-bedroom flats for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers at Elele Barracks.

Similarly, General Oluyede inspected the fully renovated Medical Reception Station at Wellington Barracks and facilities at Ibagwa Barracks in Akwa Ibom State.

As part of his leadership engagement, the COAS paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, at Government House, Uyo.

He emphasized that the Nigerian Army belongs to all Nigerians, stressing that the robust support from the state government has contributed to making Akwa Ibom one of the most peaceful states in the country.

Governor Eno, in his remarks, commended the Nigerian Army for its invaluable contributions to peace, security, and development in the state, particularly the sustained collaboration with the Commander 2 Brigade, Brigadier General Alex Tawasimi.

He assured the Army Chief of the state’s continued partnership and support in advancing the NA’s constitutional mandate.

Meanwhile, General Oluyede also addressed troops at 29 Battalion Parade Ground in Port Harcourt and 6 Battalion Parade Ground in Ibagwa, Abak LGA, Akwa Ibom.

He praised their dedication and resilience in the fight against oil theft and pipeline vandalism, while assuring them that their welfare remains a top priority under his “Soldier First” concept.
