The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has commended Armed Forces Radio 107.7 FM for its outstanding role in combating misinformation and promoting national unity over the past decade.

Speaking during the celebration of the station’s 10th anniversary in Abuja, General Musa described the platform as a vital strategic asset in modern military operations, especially in non-kinetic engagements where accurate information is key to winning hearts and minds.

“Over the last ten years, Armed Forces Radio has become more than a broadcast station—it has become a fortress of truth. In an era plagued by disinformation, the station has remained a credible voice, countering falsehoods, promoting patriotism, and giving clarity on national issues,” the CDS said.

He noted that the station, which began transmission on 22nd May 2015, was established under the leadership of the late former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh. From its humble beginnings, the station has grown into a trusted household name in the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.

General Musa emphasized that the ability to communicate accurately and directly with the public has become increasingly important in modern warfare, especially in a security environment distorted by fake news and misinformation.

“The Armed Forces Radio has played a critical role in shaping public opinion, educating the masses, and inspiring civic responsibility. Its contributions to national security cannot be overemphasized,” he added.

As the station enters its second decade, the CDS pledged greater innovation, wider reach, and deeper public engagement. He called on Nigerians to support the Armed Forces by reporting credible information through the appropriate channels and resisting the spread of unverified news.

General Musa also expressed appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his unwavering support to the military. He thanked the Minister of Defence, Dr. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar (represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda), service chiefs, former directors, and media partners for their role in sustaining the station’s success.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Director of Armed Forces Radio, retired Colonel Timothy Antigha, reaffirmed the station’s commitment to providing factual, balanced, and patriotic programming.

“For ten years, we have been privileged to serve as a bridge between the Armed Forces and the public. We remain committed to delivering informative and inspiring content as we begin the next chapter of our journey,” he stated.

The ceremony brought together senior military officers, heads of government agencies, media partners, and dignitaries to celebrate a decade of impactful broadcasting, national service, and truth-telling on the airwaves.
