In a strategic move to fine-tune the Nigerian Armed Forces’ operational synergy, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Committee on the Review of the Joint Defence Doctrine (2017), led by Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Aminu Isah, has paid a working visit to the Headquarters of the Western Naval Command in Apapa, Lagos.

The committee was received by the Command Operations Officer, Commander Abdullahi Mohammed, who represented the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command.

During an engaging interactive session with Principal Staff Officers, Commanders, and Commanding Officers of units and ships under the command, critical areas of joint military effectiveness were deliberated. These included mechanisms for command and control in joint operations, the implementation of a Joint Integrated Logistics System, and the evolving Central Procurement Doctrine.

A major highlight of the session was the discussion on joint training, including the development of the Armed Forces Aviation Institute aimed at harmonizing doctrines and regulatory standards across all services.

Participants also underscored the urgent need for enhanced media operations and strategic communication to counter adversarial narratives in the information warfare domain.

The committee further recommended the inclusion of security experts and academic scholars from tertiary institutions to strengthen doctrinal review outcomes through diverse perspectives and scholarly input.

Accordingly, the importance of troop pre-deployment strategies before entering theaters of operation was also emphasized as a key component of mission preparedness.

In his closing remarks, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Aminu Isah, who heads the Defence Headquarters Doctrine Review Committee, reiterated the critical importance of doctrinal evolution to reflect the complex and rapidly changing security environment.

He stressed that periodic updates to the Defence Headquarters doctrine must be inclusive, forward-looking, and driven by input from all relevant stakeholders.
