The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has applauded the Lagos State Government for launching the “Produce for Lagos” initiative and the accompanying ₦500 billion (Five Hundred Billion Naira) Offtake Guarantee Fund, describing the effort as a bold and visionary game-changer in Nigeria’s quest for food security and national stability.

Speaking during the official unveiling of the initiative on Tuesday, 23rd July 2025, General Musa praised the strategic direction of the programme, noting that it perfectly aligns with the non-kinetic strategies required to tackle insecurity and socio-economic vulnerabilities across the country.

In a statement signed by the Director, Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the CDS commended the collaborative framework between the Lagos State Government, the private sector, and the Lagos Food Systems Infrastructure Company (LAFSINCO).

He emphasized that the programme arrives at a critical moment when Nigeria must build resilient food systems to curb hunger, unemployment, and conflict.

General Musa highlighted the programme’s strong connection with the Lagos State Agriculture and Food Systems Roadmap of 2021, applauding the data-driven and value-chain strengthening approach that underpins the initiative. He stressed that food security is now globally recognized as a core pillar of national security, and Lagos State is leading by example.

He further acknowledged the innovative use of Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) such as LAFSINCO, Ekolog, and the Lagos Bulk Trading Company in building a sustainable infrastructure that supports food production, enhances logistics, and protects livelihoods.

The CDS also lauded the consistent governance excellence of Lagos State, commending Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his bold leadership and for sustaining the visionary legacy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. He noted that Lagos continues to set benchmarks in subnational governance, infrastructure, and economic development.

Expressing appreciation for the invitation to witness the launch, General Musa reaffirmed the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s commitment to supporting peacebuilding initiatives and non-military strategies that promote stability and prosperity.

He also extended gratitude to President Tinubu for his unwavering support to Nigeria’s security architecture and for driving policies that connect national development to national defence.
