An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Jubrin Buba, has been remanded in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service in Kuje, Abuja, following his repeated failure to appear in court for trial over allegations of forgery.
The order was issued by Justice Binta Dogonyaro of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court 46, sitting in Apo, Abuja, after Mr. Buba was arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
In a statement by the Commission’s spokesperson, Demola Bakare, Mr. Buba is facing charges bordering on forgery and making false statements to a public officer.
According to the ICPC, the accused allegedly presented a forged Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree certificate in Public Administration, dated October 7, 2009, purportedly issued by the University of Jos, to secure employment with the NSCDC in February 2015.
The Commission stated that the offence contravenes Section 366 of the Penal Code and is punishable under Section 364.
Mr. Buba was first arraigned in 2022 before Justice Asma’u Akanbi of the FCT High Court in Kubwa and was granted bail.
However, the case was reassigned for a fresh trial to Justice Dogonyaro following Justice Akanbi’s elevation to the Court of Appeal.Despite being duly notified of subsequent hearing dates, including 22nd January 2025, the defendant failed to appear in court.
His absence persisted even after the matter was adjourned, prompting the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest. He was eventually apprehended and arraigned on 26th June 2025.
During the proceedings, the court revoked his earlier bail and ordered his remand in Kuje Correctional Centre. The case has been adjourned to 27th and 28th October 2025 for continuation of hearing.
