The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving infrastructure and security in Bunu District, promising urgent rehabilitation of key roads and sustained efforts to safeguard lives and property.
The pledge was made by the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Elder Salifu Joel Oyibo, during a reception in honour of the Olubunu of Bunu, His Royal Majesty Oba Joseph Ikusemoro, who recently marked his 100th birthday and 64th year on the throne.
Addressing dignitaries and residents at the celebration, the Deputy Governor, who represented Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo, stated that the Edumo–Okeoffin–Ayede–Olle–Iluke road, a vital artery linking more than 20 communities, would be prioritised for reconstruction.
He said the administration remains committed to delivering on campaign promises made to the people of Bunu.“On the issue of security, you can all attest that this government has not rested and will not rest until every citizen can sleep with both eyes closed,” Oyibo said, adding that the state was aware of the people’s resilience despite years of neglect.
The National President of the Bunu Development Association (BDA), Pastor Kolawole Johnson, highlighted the strategic importance of road infrastructure in improving both security and economic opportunities in the region.
He stressed that criminal activities in the area had worsened due to the deplorable condition of roads.
“The people of Bunu land are appealing for immediate intervention. Roads like Ihale–Taki and others remain impassable during the rainy season, disrupting daily life, market access, and cultural events,” he said. Johnson called on the state to direct the Kabba/Bunu Local Government to urgently begin grading works on critical feeder roads, including the Aiyegunle Ighun–Aduratedo–Ape–Igori–Aherin–Eshi and the Ofere–Ihale–Taki roads.
Also speaking, the State Security Adviser, retired Commander Jerry Omodara, described the centenary celebration as a unifying moment for the people of Bunu and a timely avenue to spotlight the development challenges they face despite the area’s vast human and natural resources.
In his remarks, Mr. John Ibisagba, President of the Olle Development Association, praised the Olubunu’s legacy, describing him as a symbol of peace, unity, and enduring leadership.
“The Olubunu’s hundred years and 64 years on the throne are not just milestones—they represent decades of wisdom, tradition, and exemplary service to our people,” Ibisagba said.
The event drew a crowd of dignitaries, traditional leaders, community groups, and well-wishers from across the state and beyond.
In his brief address, the celebrant, Oba Joseph Ikusemoro, thanked God for granting him long life and expressed heartfelt appreciation to all those who honoured him at the occasion.
