The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has promoted 38 senior officers to the rank of Wing Commander in a move aimed at strengthening operational leadership and enhancing combat readiness. The decoration ceremony took place on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the NAF Officers’ Mess in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the promotion as a well-deserved recognition of discipline, professionalism, and consistent excellence in service.
The Chief of the Air Staff represented by the Chief of Administration at Headquarters NAF, Air Vice Marshal AA Martins, noted that the newly promoted officers have demonstrated strong leadership qualities, sound judgment, and a firm commitment to mission success in an increasingly complex security environment.
According to him, evolving security challenges require officers who are adaptable, focused, and decisive in operations. He expressed confidence that the new Wing Commanders would enhance command effectiveness, sustain the tempo of ongoing air operations, and further improve combat readiness across various theatres of operation.The Air Chief also urged them to lead with integrity, courage, and fairness while upholding the core values of the Service.
In his remarks, the Commander, Headquarters NAF Camp Abuja, Air Commodore Imoke, reminded the officers that their elevation comes with greater responsibility and accountability. He charged them to carry out their duties with humility, professionalism, and dedication, in line with the traditions and ethos of the Nigerian Air Force.
The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, as well as families, friends, and well-wishers, highlighting the significance of the milestone in reinforcing the leadership structure and operational effectiveness of the Service.
