The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) are set to strengthen collaboration on youth empowerment through training in digital content creation, story writing, mentorship, and other aspects of the creative industry.

The President of the Guild, Mr. Uche Agbo, disclosed this when he led a delegation of DGN executives on a courtesy visit to the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, at the National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.

Agbo explained that the initiative seeks to create a framework that would enable Corps Members showcase their creative potential while pursuing professional careers in the entertainment and film sector. He noted that the first phase of the programme, which will be implemented under the Guild’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), will begin with sensitization exercises during Orientation Camps across the country.

He stressed that Nigeria must invest in nurturing young people with passion for the film industry in order to harness their talents for national development.

In his response, Brigadier General Nafiu commended the Directors Guild for considering the NYSC as a partner in youth development. He said the Scheme, with over five decades of service, had remained a vital platform for moulding character, fostering leadership, and promoting national unity among Nigerian youths.

The Director General assured the Guild that its proposal would be given due consideration, while reiterating the Scheme’s commitment to supporting initiatives that add value to Corps Members.

“The Scheme is passionate about skills empowerment for Corps Members because they are smart, creative, and require guidance. The involvement of the creative industry will greatly complement our Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme and further open global opportunities to our youths,” Nafiu said.
