The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has declared a strategic recalibration of military operations in Plateau State and environs, as part of renewed efforts to end incessant bandit attacks and restore enduring peace.
General Musa made this known during an operational visit to the Headquarters of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) in Jos, Plateau State, on Friday, 1 August 2025.
His visit, according to a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, underscores the Defence Headquarters’ resolve to confront the evolving security threats with renewed vigor and tactical ingenuity.
“We must evolve with the conflict. The asymmetric nature of the violence demands fresh thinking, proactive action, and unwavering commitment,” General Musa said.
He stressed the need for adaptive strategies and called on commanders to embrace accountability and decisive leadership in the face of mounting challenges.
Addressing traditional and community leaders, the CDS urged them to encourage youths to shun criminal elements and collaborate with security agencies in identifying and isolating perpetrators of violence.
“Without community buy-in, the peace we seek will remain elusive. We need your partnership to end this cycle of bloodshed,” he appealed.
Reaffirming the military’s commitment, General Musa assured troops under OPSH of enhanced operational capabilities, including improved logistics, to boost morale and mission effectiveness.
Earlier, the Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN and General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Eyitayo Folusho Oyinlola, briefed the CDS on the progress made so far.
While acknowledging the challenges, he highlighted the operation’s achievements and expressed confidence in the troops’ resilience and dedication.
“We have consolidated inter-agency cooperation and deepened intelligence-sharing mechanisms. Our synergy with other security bodies is stronger than ever,” Oyinlola noted.
He vowed that the command would remain steadfast until the peace-building process yields tangible results across the entire joint area of operation.
As part of his visit, General Musa also toured the Nigerian Army Medical Centre in Tigi and the OPSH Sector 6 base in Jebbu Bindi, both within Riyom Local Government Area.
He pledged support for the medical facility to ensure it provides quality healthcare to troops and civilians alike.
At the Jebbu Bindi community, the CDS commended the troops for their vigilance and urged them to sustain high standards of professionalism and community engagement.
“You are the frontline defenders of peace. Stay alert, stay committed, and stay connected with the people you protect,” he charged.
The CDS’s visit reinforces the military’s readiness to secure troubled regions through a blend of tactical innovation, community partnership, and leadership accountability.
