The leadership of the Joint Task Force North East, under Operation HADIN KAI, has embarked on a comprehensive three-day operational assessment tour to Sector 2 Area of Responsibility, aimed at strengthening the resilience, morale, and fighting spirit of troops engaged in counter-insurgency operations in the North-East. The tour, which spanned from 29th to 31st July 2025, covered multiple strategic locations across Yobe State.
According to a statement released by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, the Theatre Commander, in separate addresses to troops at all visited locations, conveyed the commendation and encouragement of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Service Chiefs. The Theatre Commander visited Headquarters Sector 2 in Damaturu, 233 Battalion Damaturu, 159 Battalion Geidam, and Forward Operating Bases in Bukharti, Kanama, Babbangida, and Kukurta.
He reiterated that the welfare and sound administration of troops remain a top priority of the Military High Command, adding that the assessment visit was primarily designed to evaluate the troops’ living conditions, logistics, feeding, and general well-being. He noted that direct interaction with personnel helps to better understand and promptly address their pressing challenges.
While commending the troops for their resilience, bravery, and unwavering commitment in the face of adversity, the Theatre Commander charged them to remain disciplined, sustain an aggressive operational posture, and intensify offensive operations to ensure the complete defeat of terrorist elements and restoration of peace to the North-East region.
He also relayed the message of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who assured that all personnel who demonstrate exceptional gallantry and performance in the line of duty will be recognised and rewarded through various welfare initiatives approved for the Theatre. He further urged personnel to adhere strictly to the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) Policy on the Use of Social Media, and to always use the appropriate chain of command when expressing concerns.
A key highlight of the visit was the commissioning of several newly completed and renovated projects, including the Sector 2 Main Repair Group Vehicle Bay. The Theatre Commander also toured vital military installations such as the Army Logistics Base 3, the Level II Field Hospital in Damaturu, and other operational facilities supporting frontline troops.
Another remarkable moment was the decoration of Inspector M.D. Yusuf, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II) in recognition of his dedication to duty. The visit also featured high-level briefings, exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs symbolising camaraderie and operational unity.
The Theatre Commander was accompanied throughout the visit by the Acting Commander, Sector 2 Operation HADIN KAI, Brigadier General Beyedi Martins, the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Component Commanders, Sector 2 supporting Commanders, and senior staff officers from Headquarters Theatre Command.
The operational assessment underscores the ongoing commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to not only degrade insurgent threats but also to ensure that the men and women on the frontline are fully supported, motivated, and equipped to deliver lasting peace in the region.
