Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have sustained offensive operations across the theatre, recording significant gains in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign under Operation DESERT SANITY V. The operations led to the neutralisation of terrorists, arrest of suspects, and the surrender of a terrorist member in different parts of the region.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, who said troops, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, successfully engaged terrorists moving from Yale towards the Sambisa Forest axis. He noted that four terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while troops recovered an AK-47 rifle with ammunition, alongside food items believed to be part of the terrorists’ logistics supply chain. The troops returned safely to base without casualties.
Lieutenant Colonel Uba further explained that sustained and coordinated operations by multiple units along key routes, including Dambboa–Maiduguri, Dambboa–Gwoza, and the Goniri axis, as well as other suspected infiltration corridors, effectively restricted the movement and activities of terrorist elements within the theatre.
In a related development, troops deployed at Kanama arrested two suspected terrorist collaborators during a stop-and-search operation. The suspects were reportedly found with items linked to logistics support for terrorist groups, including clothing and other personal effects.
Preliminary investigations also uncovered incriminating digital materials indicating possible affiliation with terrorist elements. The suspects are currently in custody for further investigation.
Meanwhile, troops also recorded the surrender of a suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP member at a checkpoint in Kukawa Local Government Area. The individual, who claimed to have been abducted earlier in the year and forced into joining the terrorist group, is currently undergoing profiling.
The Theatre Command reassured the public of its commitment to restoring lasting peace, security, and economic stability in the North-East. It also urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, while commending troops for their gallantry and resilience in sustaining operational momentum.
