The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out a successful air strike against terrorist elements in Katsina State, destroying a key hideout linked to a notorious kingpin, Abasu Aiki.

The operation, conducted on May 1, 2026, was executed by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA Sector 2, targeting a terrorist enclave in the Dan-Aji Forest within Faskari Local Government Area. The strike followed credible intelligence reports indicating renewed insurgent activity in the area.

According to a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the location served as a logistics hub and transit point for fighters loyal to Abasu Aiki. The group has been associated with repeated attacks on communities and security personnel across Faskari, Kankara, and Funtua axis of the state.

Air surveillance identified armed terrorists on motorcycles as well as other fighters within the enclave, prompting a coordinated precision strike on the targets and their support structures.

A Battle Damage Assessment confirmed that several terrorists were neutralised, while the logistics base and related facilities were destroyed, resulting in secondary explosions and fires.

The Nigerian Air Force says the operation has significantly disrupted terrorist movement and supply chains in the area, reaffirming its commitment to eliminating criminal elements and restoring peace and security across the North-West region.
