The Defence Attachés of the United Kingdom and Germany to Nigeria, Brigadier Tom Harper and Colonel Boris Bovecamp, have reaffirmed their countries’ continued support and collaboration with Nigeria in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, following the attachés’ visit to the Theatre Command Headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri.
During the visit, Brigadier Harper emphasized the strong mutual respect and enduring relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, noting their shared commitment to the rule of law, democracy and human rights. He commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sustained efforts in tackling terrorism in the North-East, particularly through Operation HADIN KAI.
The UK Defence Attaché also reaffirmed his country’s commitment to providing additional training support through the British Military Advisory and Training Team.
Similarly, the German Defence Attaché, Colonel Bovecamp, said his visit was aimed at exploring possible areas of future collaboration, especially in capacity building and potential interventions through regional cooperation arrangements to enhance operational effectiveness in the fight against terrorism.
In his remarks, the Theatre Commander, Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, appreciated the significant contributions of the United Kingdom and Germany to ongoing counter-insurgency operations. He noted that the various training initiatives have improved troops’ skills and operational proficiency in addressing evolving security challenges within the theatre.
Major General Abubakar further identified areas for future collaboration to include technical expertise, equipment provision and logistics support.
The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ register, presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph.
