Nigerian Army Concludes 2026 Lieutenant to Captain Promotion Examinations in Abeokuta

The Nigerian Army has successfully concluded the 2026 Lieutenant to Captain Practical Promotion Examinations (LCPPE), marking a significant milestone in the professional advancement of junior officers across the service.

The exercise, hosted by the 81 Division Nigerian Army in Abeokuta, Ogun State, rigorously assessed candidates in academic, physical and tactical competencies.

In a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Felicia Daniel, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Training and Doctrine Command, the examination underscored the Army’s commitment to professionalism, excellence and leadership development.

Addressing the officers before the announcement of results, the Commander Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA), Major General Peter Malla, described the examination as a defining moment in the careers of participating officers. He noted that the assessment went beyond knowledge and competence, stressing that it also tested character, discipline and leadership potential.

He urged the candidates to build on the lessons learnt as they prepare to assume greater responsibilities within the Army.
Major General Malla commended the discipline and professionalism exhibited throughout the exercise, adding that the examination was conducted in strict compliance with the Nigerian Army Charter for Promotion Examinations.

He also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for providing the necessary support and resources, and thanked the host division for its hospitality and effective administrative coordination.

In his farewell remarks, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, described the promotion examination as one of the most rigorous and essential stages in an officer’s career progression. He emphasized that the transition from Lieutenant to Captain represents a critical step into company-level leadership, which forms the backbone of operational effectiveness.

The two-week LCPPE 2026 covered eight core subjects, including Tactics, Map Reading, Communications, Administration in the Field, Driving and Maintenance, Skill at Arms, French Language and Physical Fitness tests.

The examination was widely regarded as a comprehensive evaluation of leadership capacity and tactical proficiency among the next cadre of company-level commanders.
