As part of efforts to enhance inter-corps collaboration and boost operational effectiveness, the Commander Corps of Nigerian Army Engineers (CCE), Major General Shamsudeen Shafaru, has conducted an operational and familiarisation visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation HADARIN DAJI, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna.
The visit, which took place at the 8 Division Conference Room, was aimed at assessing ongoing engineering operations, reinforcing professional synergy, and enhancing overall operational readiness within the 8 Division Area of Responsibility.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the CCE held extensive engagements with the GOC and senior officers of the Division.
Discussions focused on critical operational activities, engineering support to ongoing missions, and infrastructural developments across formations and units under the Division’s command.
Addressing officers during the visit, Major General Shafaru said the exercise was designed to evaluate the deployment, welfare, and operational readiness of engineer personnel within the Division.
He emphasized the strategic importance of the Corps of Engineers in providing combat engineering support, maintaining infrastructure, and enhancing troop mobility and survivability in both peacetime and operational environments.
The CCE commended Major General Koughna for his leadership and the Division’s notable achievements, particularly in the effective utilisation of engineering resources in support of operational tasks. He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to addressing identified challenges, improving capacity, and providing timely interventions through training and the provision of essential equipment.
In his response, Major General Bemgba Koughna expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely and significant in strengthening cooperation between the Corps of Engineers and 8 Division. He highlighted the demands of ongoing operations, infrastructural requirements, and the critical role of engineer units in achieving mission success.
The GOC also assured of the Division’s continued commitment to the optimal use and maintenance of engineering assets to meet operational objectives.
The visit ended with the signing of the visitors’ book, an exchange of souvenirs, and a group photograph to mark the occasion.
