The Ministry of Defence has reassured Nigerians of continuity in its operations, confirming that the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, is attending the 2025 Dubai International Airshow with the full approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations, Enderline Chukwu, the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, addressed public concerns surrounding the absence of key security figures—including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Chief of Defence Staff, General O.O. Oluyede; and Minister Badaru—amid ongoing security challenges in the country.
Matawalle emphasized that their engagements abroad form part of critical national assignments duly sanctioned by the President, adding that the government’s commitment to maintaining national security remains firm and unshaken.
He highlighted the Dubai Airshow as an important global platform for the aerospace, space, and defence sectors, bringing together defence ministers, innovators, and officials from various countries to showcase emerging technologies and strengthen international cooperation.
According to him, Nigeria’s participation is aimed at advancing national interests, promoting the country’s defence capabilities, and strengthening collaborations with global partners.
Matawalle clarified that Minister Badaru’s participation in the event does not diminish the government’s responsiveness to current security concerns at home. He reiterated his condemnation of the recent abduction of schoolchildren and assured Nigerians that security agencies are coordinating efforts for their safe return.
The Minister of State affirmed that he remains in the country, fully handling ongoing security matters, and reassured the public of continued progress despite the Minister’s temporary absence. He noted that the two-minister structure within some ministries ensures seamless operations even when one minister is away on official duty.
He concluded that Minister Badaru will resume full engagement in addressing national security issues immediately upon his return.
