The Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Barrister Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has praised the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and the Nigerian Army for their steadfast commitment to peace and security across Nigeria.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Governor Mbah gave the commendation on Thursday, 13 November 2025, while receiving the COAS and senior officers from Army Headquarters in his office. He said he had closely observed the activities of the Army Chief since he assumed office, noting that General Shaibu has approached his responsibilities with utmost seriousness and dedication befitting his strategic role.
Governor Mbah also congratulated the COAS on his appointment, stating that it came as no surprise given his impressive track record in previous commands within the North East and other formations. He added that Enugu State was honoured to host the Army Chief and his entourage for the Regimental Sergeant Majors’ (RSM) Convention.
In his remarks, Lieutenant General Shaibu thanked the Governor and people of Enugu State for their consistent support to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies. He assured that the Nigerian Army would continue to adopt proactive measures to address security challenges nationwide, expressing confidence that with sustained collaboration among the Armed Forces, security agencies and the public, insecurity would eventually be surmounted.
The COAS also visited troops of 82 Division at the Division Headquarters and the Forward Operations Base in Ivo, Abia State. He commended their efforts, emphasising that their sacrifices have significantly enhanced the security situation across the South East. He reassured them that their welfare remains a priority and promised to tackle accommodation challenges in Army barracks across the country.
Later, General Shaibu attended the closing ceremony of the 2nd Regimental Sergeant Majors’ (RSM) Convention 2025, themed “RSM Roles in Operational Readiness and Combat Effectiveness.” As the Special Guest of Honour, he noted that the event was symbolic as it marked his first official engagement since assuming office. He highlighted that the convention provided a vital platform for robust deliberations and exchange of ideas aimed at strengthening discipline, leadership and regimentation within the Nigerian Army.
Earlier, the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General Isa Abdullahi, lauded the RSMs for their dedication and commitment to upholding discipline in the Nigerian Army. He noted that the convention had broadened their understanding of regimental responsibilities and enhanced their leadership capacity.
Certificates were later presented to participants drawn from military and paramilitary organisations.
