COAS CHARGES MILITARY POLICE PERSONNEL ON PROFESSIONALISM, DISCIPLINE AT 2025 TRAINING WORKSHOP

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged personnel of the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police (NACMP) to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and integrity in the discharge of their duties in support of the Nigerian Army’s operational and administrative objectives.

The Army Chief gave the charge while declaring open the 2025 Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police Biannual Training Workshop, held at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre, Asokoro, Abuja. He was represented at the event by the Chief of Training, Nigerian Army, Major General Valentine Okoro.

In his address, Lieutenant General Shaibu commended the Corps for its crucial role in maintaining discipline and ensuring regimentation within the Army. He noted that the workshop marks the first comprehensive training engagement for the Corps in over a decade, following a 12-year gap since the last session held at the Nigerian Army School of Military Police, Zaria, in 2013.

According to him, the resumption of the workshop underscores the Army’s renewed commitment to capacity development and continuous learning, particularly within the Corps of Military Police, which serves as a key instrument of discipline, law enforcement, and internal accountability within the Service.

The COAS further explained that the decision to make the workshop a biannual event is aimed at ensuring sustained professional development and alignment with global best practices in military policing. He described the theme of the 2025 workshop — “Enhancing the Professional Competence of the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police Personnel to Effectively Discharge Its Responsibilities in Support of the Nigerian Army in a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment” — as both apt and timely.

He stated that the increasingly complex and evolving nature of today’s security threats requires military police officers to adapt, innovate, and draw lessons from real-life operational experiences. “By integrating lessons from the field with global best practices, we can refine our strategies, enhance operational effectiveness, and maintain the strategic advantage needed to safeguard our nation’s stability,” he said.

Lieutenant General Shaibu also acknowledged the steadfast support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, whose commitment to the welfare, training, and operational readiness of the Nigerian Army has continued to strengthen the Service’s capacity to defend the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Provost Marshal (Army), Major General Matthias Erebulu, expressed appreciation to the COAS for his visionary leadership and continued support to the Corps. He emphasized that the workshop seeks to foster professional growth, cross-fertilization of ideas, and strategic thinking among participants.

He noted that a series of lectures and technical sessions have been designed to address key areas such as military police investigations, regimentation, barracks security, prevention of arms and ammunition theft, and the role of the Corps in joint operations.

The Provost Marshal reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to upholding discipline, professionalism, and excellence in support of the Nigerian Army’s broader mission.

The event was attended by senior officers from Army Headquarters and other Services, heads of security agencies, former Provost Marshals, retired military police officers, and members of the press.

The Chief of Army Staff thereafter declared the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police Biannual Training Workshop 2025 open, urging all participants to make the most of the opportunity for knowledge sharing and professional enhancement.
