The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has announced the arrest of sixteen officers following a routine military exercise that uncovered acts of indiscipline and violations of service regulations.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, investigations revealed that the officers’ actions were largely driven by grievances related to perceived career stagnation, particularly repeated failures in promotion examinations and other professional challenges.

Brigadier General Gusau further disclosed that some of the apprehended officers had already been under military jurisdiction for various offences and were either awaiting or undergoing trial. He noted that their conduct was found to be inconsistent with the values, ethics, and discipline expected of personnel of the Armed Forces.

The statement emphasized that upon completion of the ongoing investigation, all indicted officers will be subjected to the full military disciplinary process, in line with established procedures, to ensure accountability and uphold professionalism within the military.

The Armed Forces reiterated that the arrests are purely disciplinary measures aimed at reinforcing internal order, discipline, and loyalty within its ranks. It also reaffirmed its zero tolerance for behaviour that undermines the integrity of the institution or threatens its constitutional obligations under democratic governance.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria remains resolute in maintaining professionalism, discipline, and adherence to its constitutional responsibilities in the service of the nation
