TROOPS FOIL BANDITS’ PLOTS, RECOVER WEAPONS IN KATSINA-ALA, STRENGTHEN TRUST AMONG LOCALS

Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have intensified their onslaught against criminal elements in Benue State, achieving yet another major success in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area. The operations, carried out between 26 and 28 September 2025, thwarted the plans of armed bandits and led to the recovery of a cache of weapons—further strengthening public confidence in security agencies.

In a statement issued by the Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, the operations were described as part of ongoing efforts by troops to sustain aggressive actions against criminal groups threatening peace and security in the region.

On 26 September 2025, troops deployed at Abaji acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of bandits in Agurugu village. The troops promptly mobilized to the area and made contact with the armed criminals at Sheekan village. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the gallant soldiers, the bandits fled in disarray. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one (1) automatic pistol, three (3) 9mm rounds, thirty-three (33) 7.62mm special ammunition, fifteen (15) 5.56x45mm rounds, two (2) AK-47 magazines, and twenty-nine (29) mobile phones abandoned by the fleeing criminals.

In a related development, on 28 September 2025, troops stationed at Gbise launched a fighting patrol to Igyudu village following reports of bandit activity in the community. On sighting the approaching troops, the bandits abandoned their positions and escaped into nearby bushes. During a thorough search of the area, the troops recovered one (1) single-barrel gun, three (3) rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, two (2) AK-47 magazines, one (1) G3 magazine, one (1) hand grenade, one (1) tear gas canister, assorted medical kits, and an Itel phone.

Commending the troops for their courage and professionalism, the Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, lauded their swift response and gallantry in dislodging the bandits. He emphasized that the successes recorded reflect the effectiveness of ongoing military strategies and the commitment of security forces to restoring peace and stability across the region.

“We remain resolute in our mission to restore lasting peace in Benue and neighbouring states. Our troops have demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination, and we will not relent until all criminal elements are neutralized and the affected communities are completely secured,” the Commander stated.

Major General Gara further assured residents of Katsina-Ala and adjoining communities of their safety, urging them to continue providing credible and timely intelligence to support ongoing military operations.
