By Bavoriat Clara

The President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa, on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, led members of her delegation on a courtesy visit to the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori.

In her remarks, Mrs. Musa expressed appreciation to the Governor for the warm reception, noting that her visit to the state was in connection with a training seminar for widows of fallen heroes from Anambra, Enugu, Delta, and Edo States. She also highlighted the association’s recent initiative tagged the “Thank You to Our Troops” Campaign — a year-long programme designed to celebrate, support, and appreciate members of the Armed Forces and Police, while reminding Nigerians of the daily sacrifices made by security personnel in safeguarding the nation.

She further briefed the Governor on the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy, Abuja, describing it as a lasting legacy for children and families of fallen heroes. According to her, every qualified child of the fallen heroes would automatically receive a full scholarship at the National Reference College.

Commending Governor Oborevwori for his impactful policies on women and youth empowerment, Mrs. Musa applauded his administration’s commitment to initiatives that improve the welfare of citizens in Delta State.

In his response, the Governor warmly welcomed Mrs. Musa, describing her visit as a homecoming. He recalled his personal acquaintance with the Chief of Defence Staff before his marriage to the DEPOWA President, and lauded her choice of Asaba, Delta State, as the venue for the empowerment seminar bringing together widows across four states.

Governor Oborevwori also assured Mrs. Musa of his full support, noting that Delta State is equally committed to uplifting widows. He revealed that just last month, the state empowered 10,000 widows who would now receive monthly stipends in addition to being enrolled in the Delta State Health Insurance Scheme.

The visit featured the presentation of plaques and group photographs.
