The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has welcomed the judgment delivered today by the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland, which sentenced Simon Ekpa to six years imprisonment for terrorism-related offences.

In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, General Musa described the verdict as a landmark victory in the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

He stressed that the conviction underscores a fundamental principle: those who incite violence, sponsor separatism, or finance terrorism will face justice, regardless of where they operate.

“This judgment sends a strong and clear message there is no safe haven for individuals or groups who sponsor or encourage acts of terror against Nigeria or any other sovereign state,” the CDS stated.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria commend the Finnish authorities for their professionalism and diligence in ensuring justice was served.”

General Musa also expressed deep appreciation to Nigerian security agencies, intelligence services, law enforcement bodies, and diplomats for their relentless collaboration and provision of actionable evidence that contributed to Ekpa’s conviction.

According to him, the outcome demonstrates the effectiveness of international cooperation in tackling transnational threats.

The Chief of Defence Staff while reaffirming the Armed Forces’ unwavering resolve, pledged continued partnership with global allies to dismantle terrorist networks and secure lasting peace across Nigeria.

He further urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and support security agencies in the ongoing efforts to end insurgency and violent separatist movements.
