The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, restoring peace, and ensuring security across troubled regions, with troops recording significant operational successes between 21 and 27 August 2025.
In a statement, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, said renewed strategies by the military in collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders have continued to degrade terrorists, rescue kidnapped victims, and enable farmers to carry out activities unhindered.
NORTH EAST – OPERATION HADIN KAI (OPHK):
Troops sustained aggressive operations against Boko Haram, ISWAP, and JAS terrorists in Borno and Yobe States. Several terrorists and logistics suppliers were eliminated, weapons and ammunition recovered, and kidnapped victims rescued. A terrorist linked to the Abu Ayuba syndicate surrendered in Kaga LGA of Borno State, pledging cooperation.
NORTH WEST – OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY):
Operations in Katsina, Kaduna, Sokoto, and Zamfara States led to the elimination of terrorists, arrest of 28 suspects, and rescue of 76 kidnapped victims, including during an airstrike on Pauwa Hill in Kankara LGA. Arms, ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles, and cash were recovered.
NORTH CENTRAL – OPERATION SAFE HAVEN (OPSH):
Troops neutralized terrorists, arrested 19 criminals, and rescued 7 kidnapped victims in Plateau and Kaduna States. A notorious armed robber, Abdullahi Abubakar, and others were also arrested. Five gunrunners and two wanted criminals were nabbed with weapons, ammunition, and cash.
OPERATION WHIRL STROKE (OPWS):
Troops in Benue, Taraba, Nasarawa, Kogi, and the FCT rescued 29 kidnapped victims, arrested 13 extremists, and recovered arms, ammunition, motorcycles, and vehicles.
SOUTH-SOUTH – OPERATION DELTA SAFE (OPDS):
Troops foiled oil theft valued at over ₦443 million, destroying illegal refining sites, cooking ovens, storage tanks, and boats. Thirty-three oil thieves and criminals were arrested, with arms, ammunition, and explosives recovered. Two kidnapped victims were also rescued in Delta and Rivers States.
SOUTH EAST – OPERATION UDO KA (OPUK):
Troops maintained an offensive posture, neutralizing terrorists and arresting nine suspected IPOB/ESN members in Imo, Enugu, Abia, and Anambra States.
Major General Kangye assured that the Armed Forces, alongside security agencies and hybrid forces, will sustain momentum in line with global best practices to restore peace and stability nationwide.
