Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to unveil a new book on Nigeria’s counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations in the North-East at a high-profile public presentation scheduled for May 21, 2026, in Abuja.

The book, titled Counter-terrorism and Counter-insurgency Operations in Northeast Nigeria, was authored by retired Major General Ibrahim Manu Yusuf. The event will take place at the National Defence College beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Vice President Shettima is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour and Chief Unveiler, alongside state governors, members of the National Assembly, the Minister of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, retired military officers, diplomats, scholars and other stakeholders in the security sector.

According to the organisers, the book captures Major General Yusuf’s experiences, operational insights and lessons learned from years of counterterrorism and counterinsurgency campaigns against Boko Haram and other terrorist groups operating in Nigeria’s North-East region.

The two-volume publication is expected to contribute to national security discourse, military studies and the documentation of Nigeria’s counterinsurgency operations.

Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Professor Eghosa Osaghae, is expected to review the book and examine its strategic, historical and policy relevance.

Organisers noted that the event is aimed at deepening discussions on counterterrorism operations, security sector reforms and evolving military strategies for tackling asymmetric threats in Nigeria and the wider Lake Chad Basin.

Media organisations have also been encouraged to cover the event due to its significance to defence studies, military history and ongoing national security discussions.
