Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intensified offensive operations against terrorist elements in Zamfara State, recording fresh successes in ongoing clearance missions across several communities.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations were carried out in the early hours of May 4, 2026, targeting identified terrorist enclaves in Maikwanuga village in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, as well as Aljumma, Gidan Dawa, Magami Didi, and Tungar Magaji villages in Maradun Local Government Area.
Lieutenant Colonel Danja disclosed that troops encountered terrorists at Tungar Magaji, where they engaged them with superior firepower, neutralizing two insurgents while others fled the scene in disarray.
He added that a follow-up exploitation of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with a loaded magazine containing 30 rounds of ammunition, as well as a motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists.
The statement further noted that the operations form part of a sustained campaign to dismantle terrorist hideouts within the Bagega–Sunke forest corridor, with a view to restoring lasting peace and security in affected communities. The military also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
