Troops of Sector 2 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have neutralised several suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered weapons as well as rustled livestock during coordinated offensive operations in Sokoto and Katsina States.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba.

According to the statement, troops in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State responded swiftly to a distress call over an attempt by suspected Lakurawa Terrorist Group members to set ablaze a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wuri Village. The troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, neutralising two of them, while others reportedly fled following intense military firepower.

The statement added that troops subsequently carried out exploitation operations in the area, leading to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists.

In a separate operation in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops on fighting patrol intercepted terrorists moving with herds of rustled livestock at Danya Bakwai Settlement. Following a gun duel, the terrorists abandoned 62 rustled animals and escaped. The recovered livestock were later handed over to their rightful owners at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia.

Lieutenant Colonel Osoba reaffirmed that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to eliminating terrorism and banditry across the North-West region, while urging residents to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies.
