Counter-Terrorism: MNJTF Force Commander Visits Maiduguri, Advocates Robust Cooperation

The Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force, Major General Saidu Audu, has called for stronger collaboration between the MNJTF and the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI to enhance ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the North-East region. He made the call during an operational visit to the Headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.

In a statement issued by the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI and signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the visit featured a comprehensive operational briefing on the activities of OPHK, as well as an interactive session with senior military officers.

Major General Audu explained that the visit was aimed at brainstorming and generating ideas that would further strengthen operational successes, while also deepening synergy and jointness between the MNJTF and Operation HADIN KAI.

The Force Commander stressed that collaborative efforts remained the most effective strategy for decisively defeating terrorist groups and denying them freedom of action across the region. He described the MNJTF as a unique multinational military alliance made up of troops from contributing countries working together to combat terrorism and insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin.

Major General Audu also commended the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI for the warm reception accorded to him and praised the Theatre Command for sustaining operations that have significantly curtailed insurgent activities in the North-East.

Responding, the Theatre Commander Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, described the visit as timely and strategic, noting that it would further improve the operational effectiveness of both formations in promoting security, peace, and economic stability among MNJTF member nations. He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation HADIN KAI to sustained collaboration with the MNJTF in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, while also pledging continued efforts to protect lives and property for improved socio-economic development in the region.

The visit was attended by senior military officers, including the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1 OPHK, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu; the Deputy Force Commander MNJTF, Brigadier General Ndjonkep Frederic; the Chief of Staff to the Theatre Commander, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed; component commanders, field commanders, and other principal staff officers from both MNJTF and Operation HADIN KAI.

Highlights of the visit included the inspection of a Quarter Guard, operational briefings, an interactive session, presentation of souvenirs, signing of the visitors’ register, and a group photograph.
