The Director General of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, retired Major General James Myam, has said the Leadership Skills Development Course 15/2026 is designed to strengthen the leadership capacity of Nigerian Army personnel in addressing the country’s evolving security challenges.

Speaking during the inauguration of the course in Abuja, Major General Myam explained that the programme was tailored for officers of the rank of lieutenant colonel and below, with the aim of sharpening their leadership abilities and equipping them with modern operational skills needed in today’s complex security environment. He noted that the training would expose participants to critical areas such as emotional intelligence, critical thinking, teamwork, communication, decision-making, crisis leadership, coaching and mentoring, as well as inter-agency collaboration.

According to him, studies conducted by the Centre revealed that non-state actors and other criminal elements continually adapt and modify their strategies, making it necessary for the Nigerian military to also review and improve its operational approaches in order to effectively counter emerging threats.

Major General Myam further emphasized that the Nigerian Army had continued to complement conventional military training with specialized leadership programmes aimed at preparing personnel to effectively handle operational, administrative and logistics challenges in the field. He expressed confidence that the course would further enhance the leadership competence of participants and positively impact their performance in their respective units and formations upon completion of the programme.

He also urged participants to actively engage facilitators and resource persons throughout the training to maximize the opportunities provided by the programme and justify the investment made in their professional development by the Nigerian Army.
