The Headquarters Guards Brigade has confirmed the death of Mr. Abdulsamad Jamiu, who died in the early hours of April 25, 2026, during an armed robbery attack at Shagari Estate in Dei-Dei, Abuja.
In a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Olawuyi Odunola, troops of the Guards Brigade Quick Response Group were on routine night patrol when they responded to a distress call from the area. On arrival, the troops reportedly came under gunfire from fleeing armed robbers, leading to a brief exchange.
The statement explained that the corps member was caught in the crossfire during the confrontation. Despite efforts by the troops to secure the area and save lives, he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to preliminary findings, the situation was described as volatile, with troops engaging the attackers while attempting to protect residents of the community.
The Commander of the Guards Brigade, alongside officers and soldiers, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, the NYSC, and others affected by the incident, noting that the loss has deeply impacted the unit.
The Brigade has launched a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, assuring that findings will be made public. The remains of the deceased have been deposited at Kubwa General Hospital after being handed over to relevant authorities.
The Guards Brigade reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the Federal Capital Territory, while urging residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies.
