Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have foiled a bandit attack in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State, recovering weapons and motorcycles in the process.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the operation took place on 9 October 2025 after troops deployed at Tapga Ngasawa Village received credible intelligence from locals in Majebiyu Village about an ongoing attack by armed men. The suspects were said to have invaded the community, firing sporadically, vandalising properties, and stealing motorcycles and other valuables.

Responding swiftly to the distress call, the troops mobilised to the scene and engaged the assailants. On sighting the soldiers, the criminals fled into a nearby bush, with some possibly sustaining gunshot wounds. A subsequent search and clearance operation led to the recovery of five dane guns and two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing attackers.

Commending the troops for their professionalism and prompt response, the Commander, 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to ridding Taraba State of criminal elements and recovering all illegally acquired weapons.

He urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to help sustain peace and security across the state.
