The Nigerian Army has officially concluded its 2025 combined Third and Fourth Quarter Media Training Seminar, reaffirming its commitment to deepening collaboration with the media as a strategic partner in promoting national unity, responsible communication, and information Security at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, described the event as a resounding success that strengthened understanding and synergy between the military and the media.
> “Ladies and gentlemen, it is with profound honour and a deep sense of humility that I stand before you to mark the closing of the Nigerian Army Public Relations Mediatheque Seminar 2025,” she began. “Over the past days, we have engaged in reverent discussions, inspiring presentations, and stimulating exchanges that sharpened our understanding of the vital interface between the military and the media in safeguarding our nation.”
Lieutenant Colonel Anele explained that the Third and Fourth Quarter Media Training Seminar served as a unifying platform to review, reflect, and strengthen the Army’s public communication strategy for the year. She noted that the deliberations underscored the increasing importance of information dominance and media collaboration in modern military operations.
> “In today’s complex security environment, warfare is not won by firepower alone, but equally by mastery of information,” she said. “Propaganda, misinformation, and disinformation have become raw weapons in the hands of terrorists, fascists, and economic saboteurs. Our collective task is to ensure that these forces do not erode public trust, weaken national morale, or undermine the sacrifices of our troops who daily confront the enemies of our state.”
She described the closure of the Third and Fourth Quarter Seminar as a significant milestone for the Directorate, representing the completion of the 2025 training cycle aimed at building capacity among Army public relations officers and enhancing the military’s media relations framework.
> “The cooperation of the media is indispensable. You are not bystanders in this fight—you are strategic partners whose words and reports shape perceptions, build resilience, and strengthen mutual trust,” she stated.
While commending participants and facilitators for their contributions, Anele urged all officers and media representatives to put the lessons learned into practice.
> “I urge all participants to translate these lessons into action—whether in the newsroom, on the field, or in our respective departments—so that together, we can deny adversaries the obscenity of propaganda and instead uphold the truth of our collective resolve against criminality,” she added.
On behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, Lieutenant Colonel Anele extended gratitude to the resource persons, media partners, and sister service spokespersons for their patriotism and commitment.
> “Your dedication is a testament to the unbreakable bond between the Nigerian Army and the media. As we draw the curtains on the Third and Fourth Quarter Combined Media Training Seminar, I charge you all to remain ambassadors of truth, defenders of professional ethics, and partners in the great task of building a safer, stronger, and more united Nigeria,” she concluded, formally declaring the seminar closed.
The seminar, organized by the Directorate of Army Public Relations, featured four thought-provoking lectures focusing on military-media relations, strategic communication, digital information management, and the use of artificial intelligence to combat misinformation.
Key takeaways from the seminar emphasized responsible communication, ethical standards, proactive engagement, technology integration, and partnerships for national interest as vital tools for sustaining credibility and public trust.
The successful completion of the Third and Fourth Quarter Media Training Seminar marks another significant step by the Nigerian Army Directorate of Public Relations toward enhancing institutional communication, advancing professionalism, and consolidating civil-military cooperation in the digital age.
