The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Yola Operations Office, has presented a Commendation and Award of Excellence to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 153 Base Services Group, Yola, in recognition of its outstanding humanitarian service, professionalism, and enduring partnership in disaster response and community support across Adamawa State.
In a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the NAF expressed appreciation to NEMA for the recognition, describing it as a validation of the Service’s people-centred approach and unwavering commitment to national service and humanitarian response.
Presenting the award on 15 October 2025, the Head of Operations, NEMA Yola Office, Mr. Ladan Ayuba, commended the Base for its “uncommon dedication and selfless commitment” to humanitarian operations in the region. He particularly noted the Group’s consistent role since 2014 in supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) during the insurgency and its swift intervention during the July 2025 flood in Yola South Local Government Area.
“In times of crisis, when lives were at risk and communities displaced, the 153 Base Services Group stood ready — deploying personnel, vehicles, and medical teams to support rescue operations, evacuate victims, deliver emergency relief, and provide vital logistics and security support,” — Mr. Ayuba stated.
The recognition highlights the Base’s wide-ranging contributions to humanitarian causes, including rescue transportation, potable water supply to IDP camps, security during relief distribution, and assistance in the safe resettlement of displaced persons. NEMA emphasised that such acts exemplify the true spirit of inter-agency collaboration and national service.
Receiving the award, the Commander of 153 Base Services Group, Group Captain Mu’azu Mohammed Mu’azu, expressed appreciation to NEMA for the honour and dedicated it to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, whose leadership vision of a “people-centred Nigerian Air Force” continues to inspire excellence across formations. He also acknowledged the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal Patrick Obeya, for his steadfast guidance and mentorship.
“This recognition is a reflection of the CAS’s vision and the unwavering commitment of every airman and airwoman under our command,” — Group Captain Mu’azu affirmed. “We remain ever committed to protecting lives, supporting communities in need, and contributing meaningfully to national development.”
The award, NAF noted, reinforces the Service’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with NEMA and other humanitarian agencies to enhance community resilience, disaster response, and sustainable national development.
