Abuja, Nigeria – The Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, has praised the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for its steadfast commitment to women empowerment, skill acquisition, and strengthening community resilience.
Ms. Mohammed gave the commendation on Monday, 25th August 2025, during a courtesy visit to the DEPOWA Secretariat in Abuja, where she was warmly received by the Association’s President, Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa. Discussions during the visit centered on expanding collaboration in women’s empowerment, sustainable development, and inclusive growth.
During a guided tour of the DEPOWA Skill Acquisition Centre, the UN Deputy Secretary-General interacted with trainees engaged in different vocational programs. She lauded the centre’s initiatives, describing them as vital in uplifting women, supporting families, and reinforcing the social fabric of communities.
Addressing the students, Ms. Mohammed emphasized that skill development remains a powerful tool for building resilient societies and advancing family stability.
In her remarks, the President of DEPOWA, Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa, described the visit as a “moment of deep alignment” with the United Nations. She stressed that DEPOWA’s vision is strongly aligned with global goals of inclusivity, empowerment, and sustainable impact.
The visit underscored a renewed resolve between the UN and DEPOWA to strengthen collaboration, bring hope to communities, empower women, and drive inclusive progress.
