Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have successfully rescued nine kidnapped victims and neutralized several terrorists during a decisive ambush in Shinkafi Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State in the late hours of 31 September 2025. The victims, abducted from Garin Bature village in Sabon Birni LGA of Sokoto State, comprised three women and six children.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Captain David Adewusi, the operation was launched following credible intelligence on terrorist movement along a known crossing route on the Isa–Shinkafi–Kaura Namoda Road, which links Sokoto and Zamfara States. Troops laid an ambush, and on detecting their presence, the terrorists attempted to use their captives as human shields. The soldiers, however, acted swiftly and decisively, neutralizing several of the criminals while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

The rescued victims were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, Shinkafi, for medical attention. Troops also recovered an AK-47 rifle with two magazines containing 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, three mobile phones, and a pair of desert camouflage uniforms from the scene of the ambush.

Following the rescue, the victims were handed over to officials of Shinkafi LGA, who assured that arrangements were underway to reunite them with their families.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations across the North West and parts of the North Central until terrorism and banditry are completely eradicated.

The Force also urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security across Nigeria.
