Troops of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have recorded a significant operational breakthrough under Operation IGBO IDANU I, overrunning a major terrorist camp and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition linked to a network associated with Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu.

The successful operation, led by the Commander 12 Brigade, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, saw troops advance through dense forest, difficult terrain and riverine obstacles to reach the terrorists’ enclave. Despite movement challenges caused by fallen trees and marshy ground, the troops maintained tactical discipline and resilience, pressing forward to achieve operational surprise.

Military sources said the troops dismounted and advanced on foot to enhance stealth and secure tactical dominance. The manoeuvre enabled them to penetrate deep into the hideout, forcing the terrorists to flee upon sighting the advancing forces.

A thorough search of the camp led to the recovery of eight boxes of 7.62 x 54 link ammunition, each containing bandoliers of 250 rounds, as well as a box of high-velocity grenades. The recovery is expected to significantly weaken the terrorists’ operational capability and disrupt their logistics network.

Following the clearance operation, the camp was destroyed and set ablaze to prevent reoccupation. Troops have since intensified aggressive patrols and sustained offensive operations in the surrounding areas to track fleeing elements and forestall any attempt at regrouping.

The Nigerian Army says the operation underscores its unwavering commitment to dismantling terrorist strongholds, protecting communities, and restoring lasting peace and security across the region.
