Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by ISWAP terrorists on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mandaragirau in Sector 2. The engagement, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, saw troops respond with a well-coordinated defensive and offensive strategy that forced the attackers into a disorderly retreat.

According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), the Air Component of OPHK provided close air support while intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) feedback enhanced targeted responses, contributing to the decisive outcome.

Military sources confirmed that subsequent operations along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes inflicted further losses. So far, 38 terrorists have been neutralised, with eight bodies recovered within the immediate engagement area. Local intelligence reports indicate over 30 additional casualties and weapons abandoned along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere axis into the fringes of the Timbuktu Triangle, as evidenced by blood trails and abandoned equipment.

The troops recovered seven AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, four RPG bombs, and assorted ammunition. No fatalities were recorded among the troops, although one Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle was hit by RPG fire, with injured personnel promptly stabilised. The scale of enemy losses has reportedly sparked celebrations among local communities, highlighting the continued dominance of OPHK forces in restricting terrorist activities in the region.

Operations continue along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere corridor to recover additional casualties and consolidate operational gains. The Military High Command has commended the troops for their gallantry and resilience, urging them to maintain the momentum in safeguarding security across the North East.
