In continuation of ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the North East, troops of 109 Special Forces Battalion, Magumeri, under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully conducted a fighting patrol following credible intelligence on the movement of Boko Haram terrorists around Goni Dunari in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State on 10 October 2025.

According to a statement by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the terrorists, who were reportedly moving in two vehicles and accompanied by 24 foot fighters, were sighted setting houses ablaze and terrorizing locals. Acting promptly, the troops launched an aggressive patrol to intercept and neutralize the threat.

As the troops advanced towards the objective, the terrorists attempted to flee towards Damjiyakiri village. While vehicle-borne fighters dispersed in an unknown direction, the foot fighters were pursued for approximately 92 kilometres. After a sustained four-hour tactical pursuit, troops made contact with the fleeing terrorists and launched a frontal attack. The troops engaged them with superior firepower, neutralizing five terrorists, while the remaining nineteen fled in disarray, with blood trails observed along their escape route, indicating possible injuries.

Items recovered from the encounter include:

  • 1 x AK-47 rifle (Reg. No. 06798)
  • 5 x Magazines (3 empty, 2 loaded)
  • 31 x rounds of 7.62mm ammunition
  • 1 x Itel mobile phone
  • 1 x Dagger

Notably, there were no casualties or equipment losses recorded by the OPHK troops during the operation.

In a related development, troops conducting clearance operations along the Gajiram–Bolori–Mile 40–Gajiganna axis, mounted on motorcycles, engaged another group of Boko Haram fighters near Zundur village. During the firefight, four terrorists were neutralized, while others fled into the surrounding bush.

The gallant troops also rescued two abducted civilians identified as Mr. Modu Kinnami (55) and Mr. Bukar (57), both from Guzamala, and recovered a sack containing ₦750,000. Preliminary investigations revealed that the insurgents had earlier demanded a ransom of ₦2,000,000 and two new Tecno button phones for the release of the captives’ brother.

Items recovered from the scene include:

  • 1 x Blue pickup vehicle (Reg. No: GUB 327 XA)
  • 2 x New Tecno button phones
  • 1 x Jerrycan containing 30 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)
  • ₦4,355,000 (Four Million, Three Hundred and Fifty-Five Thousand Naira)

Meanwhile, further operations are ongoing across all operational fronts to maintain pressure on the terrorists and deny them freedom of movement within the North East theatre.
