Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have neutralised dozens of terrorists during a coordinated air and ground operation conducted in the Makakkari general area of Gando Forest, Bukkuyum Local Government Area, Zamfara State, on 10 August 2025.

In a statement by the Media Information Officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Captain David Adewusi, the operation was initiated following credible intelligence reports indicating the mass convergence of a large number of terrorists loyal to the late Halilu Buzu and Alhaji Beti. The terrorists were reportedly assembling within the forest to launch a reprisal attack on Adabka and Nasarawan Burkullu farming communities in Bukkuyum LGA. The planned assault, according to intelligence sources, was aimed at avenging their recent defeat during clashes with security forces and hybrid units.

Acting on the intelligence, OPFY troops coordinated with the Nigerian Air Force to execute precision airstrikes on the terrorists’ identified locations within the forest, resulting in significant enemy casualties. Following the aerial bombardment, a joint ground offensive was immediately launched by troops of OPFY under Sector 2. The ground forces successfully intercepted and eliminated several fleeing terrorists attempting to escape from the strike area.

The statement reiterated OPFY’s commitment to ensuring that terrorists and other armed non-state actors find no safe haven in the North West and parts of the North Central region. It emphasised that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, degrade their capabilities, and restore security in affected communities.

Captain Adewusi called on residents to support security forces by providing timely and accurate information on suspicious movements or activities, stressing that such cooperation is crucial to protecting communities and eradicating the menace of terrorism and banditry.
