Troops of the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, operating under Sector 2, have recorded significant operational successes with the neutralisation of two terrorists in Kebbi State and the rescue of 62 abducted victims in Zamfara State.
The operations, carried out in close coordination with other security agencies and local vigilantes, were aimed at degrading terrorist and bandit networks across the region.
According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, troops in Kebbi State acted on actionable intelligence to ambush members of the Lakurawa terrorist group near the border between Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State and Binji Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation, conducted at Kerani Village, resulted in the elimination of two terrorists and the recovery of two motorcycles used by the group.
The statement noted that the neutralised terrorists were dressed in camouflage uniforms and were operating motorcycles padded with thick blankets and fitted with equipment, including hand tyre pumps, believed to be for long-range movement.
In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops stormed Munhaye Forest, a known hideout of a notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Alti, following intelligence reports that several captives were being held in the area. The operation led to the successful rescue of 62 kidnapped victims, who have since been secured by the troops.
Efforts are currently ongoing to reunite the rescued victims with their families, while troops continue follow-up operations to further dismantle criminal enclaves in the area.
The military said the latest successes underscore the sustained commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and its partners to restoring peace, dismantling terrorist networks, and protecting lives and property across the North-West region.
