Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have recorded another major success in their ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics and criminal support networks across the North East region.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the operation was conducted under Operation DESERT SANITY V following credible intelligence. The troops arrested a 65-year-old suspected drug dealer, Hauwa Abulazeez, on January 23, 2026, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect is allegedly a key supplier of cannabis sativa to Boko Haram terrorist elements operating in Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu and Gaya communities. She is also believed to play a central role in the distribution of the illicit substance across several communities within the theatre of operations.
Further investigations indicated that the suspect sourced the cannabis sativa from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State and transported it through established supply routes for onward distribution. During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa with an estimated total weight of about 30 kilograms.
The suspect is currently in military custody undergoing preliminary investigation, while follow-up operations are ongoing to identify and dismantle the wider drug trafficking network linked to the supply of illicit substances to terrorist groups.
The military noted that the interception highlights the importance of cutting off illicit supply chains that fuel terrorism, criminality and instability in the region. Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustained, intelligence-driven operations aimed at eliminating all forms of criminality and ensuring lasting peace and security across the North East.
