Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation MESA, under the 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, have successfully repelled a bandits’ attack on Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, preventing what could have been a major assault on vulnerable communities in the area.
The operation, which took place around 5:00 p.m. on 1 November 2025, followed credible intelligence reports indicating the movement of bandits around Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse axes of Shanono. Acting swiftly on the information, troops supported by other security agencies engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel, forcing them to retreat from the area.
According to a statement by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Captain Babatunde Zubairu, the bandits, who arrived on motorcycles, suffered heavy casualties during the encounter. Nineteen of them were neutralized, while several motorcycles and two mobile phones were recovered from the fleeing criminals.
However, two gallant soldiers and one local vigilante were reported to have paid the supreme price during the operation.
Captain Zubairu further disclosed that additional clearance operations are ongoing in the general area to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further attacks, particularly cattle rustling and other criminal activities.
The Commander, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Kano State. He assured law-abiding citizens that the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with sister services and other security agencies, remains resolute in its efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
