Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have achieved another significant breakthrough in Operation Zafin Wuta with the arrest of a wanted kidnap suspect in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
According to a statement by the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the suspect, Mr. Umar Musa Geyi, was apprehended on 22 November 2025 at Jandei-Kulamu following credible intelligence. Geyi, who has long been on the security watchlist, is suspected to be a major member of a kidnapping syndicate responsible for terrorising communities within the Wukari axis.
Preliminary findings link Geyi to the abduction of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident kidnapped on 13 November 2025 in the Jandei-Kulala general area and still being held captive. The arrest followed an operation in which troops intercepted the suspect during a phone call where he confirmed the victim was alive and demanded a ransom of ₦20 million.
The suspect is currently in military custody and undergoing intensive interrogation to determine the victim’s exact location and aid ongoing rescue efforts.
Commander 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift and coordinated response. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks, rescuing abducted persons, and restoring peace and stability across Taraba State.
He also called on residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely, actionable information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
