In a renewed push to restore peace and bolster security in Benue State, troops of the 401 Special Forces Brigade and Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with local hunters, have carried out a successful clearance operation around the Tatough general area of Makurdi Local Government Area.

The operation, according to a statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations for 401 Special Forces Brigade and Sector 1 OPWS, Captain Abdullahi Lawal Osabo, involved a fighting patrol and the escort of bereaved family members to Tse-Ayele village for the burial of a deceased relative.

During the operation, troops combed through and cleared several identified hotspots and key flashpoints, including Mdoor, Anter, Tse-Gegu, Tse-Akaajime, Tse-Agam, and Ndor villages areas long suspected of harbouring criminal elements. While advancing through Tse-Akaajime, the troops encountered a group of armed bandits.

A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the neutralization of one bandit. The remaining criminals fled in disarray, abandoning their positions. Items recovered at the scene included two Tecno mobile phones and three motorcycles suspected to have been used in coordinating criminal activities.

In the aftermath, troops proceeded to destroy and set ablaze all identified bandit camps in the vicinity, effectively dismantling their hideouts and disrupting any chances of regrouping.

In a related development, troops stationed in Tatough have intensified aggressive foot patrols and perimeter security operations to reinforce military presence and reassure residents of their safety.

The Acting Commander of the 401 Special Forces Brigade and Sector 1 OPWS, Colonel K.O. Bukoye, commended the troops for their gallantry, professionalism, and steadfastness.

He urged them to remain vigilant and sustain the tempo of operations until criminal elements are completely flushed out of Benue State.

The military continues to reaffirm its commitment to restoring law and order and ensuring lasting peace across the state.
