The National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) has expressed heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as a “historic and monumental” approval of pension increases and the introduction of a Minimum Pension Guarantee for retirees across Nigeria.

In an official statement issued by the Head of Corporate Affairs, Media and Communications at the NSCC, Mr. Omini Oden, the Centre hailed the decision as a significant milestone that reflects the President’s unwavering commitment to social justice, inclusivity, and the welfare of senior citizens.

Describing the move as one that has “brought relief and hope to many families,” the Director General of the NSCC, Mrs. Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, noted that the directive is a bold affirmation of President Tinubu’s dedication to restoring the dignity of those who have laboured in service to the nation.

“This is a monumental gesture,” Akinyemi-Obe stated, “and it underscores President Tinubu’s resolve to ensure that retirees, especially under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), enjoy the benefits of their lifelong contributions to nation-building.”

The Director General also commended the President for his directive to urgently resolve the long-standing issue surrounding the police pension scheme an issue that has caused immense hardship for many retired officers.

“Our retired officers deserve to rest with peace of mind and dignity,” she said.

According to the statement, the NSCC—established by the NSCC Act of 2017—remains steadfast in its mission to advocate for the rights and welfare of Nigeria’s ageing population.

The Centre reaffirmed its commitment to championing further pension reforms and providing continued support for policies that improve the quality of life for senior citizens.

Mrs. Akinyemi-Obe emphasized that the implementation of pension increases and the establishment of a minimum pension guarantee are long-overdue interventions that will serve as a safety net for Nigeria’s most vulnerable retirees.

“With the Renewed Hope Agenda, President Tinubu has not only alleviated the financial burden of senior citizens but also restored their dignity,” she noted.

The NSCC concluded by reaffirming its support for the administration’s broader vision of inclusive governance and social equity, calling the development a beacon of hope for the nation’s ageing population.
