RAPIST OF 3-MONTH-OLD BABY SENTENCED TO 21 YEARS, WOMEN AFFAIRS MINISTER WELCOMES VERDICT

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has commended the 21-year jail sentence handed to Ahmadu Yaro, who was convicted of raping a three-month-old baby in Adogi village, Nasarawa State.

In a statement released by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jonathan Eze, the Minister of Women Affairs, Honourable Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, described the judgment as a bold and necessary step in protecting vulnerable children from abuse.

The ruling was delivered by the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu, and has been described as a landmark decision in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence.

The Minister also praised the presence and commitment of the Nasarawa State Attorney General, Barrister Isaac Danladi, during the proceedings, calling it a sign of serious institutional backing.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim extended her appreciation to Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, for fostering an environment that enables justice to thrive.

She noted that the sentence sends a strong message that impunity will not be tolerated in the state.She further emphasized the importance of fully implementing the Child Rights Act, which has been domesticated in all 36 states, and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to holding perpetrators of child abuse accountable while ensuring proper care and support for survivors.

The Minister added that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, issues of violence against women and children will be treated with urgency and seriousness.

She urged other states to follow Nasarawa’s lead in prioritizing justice for vulnerable groups and called for stronger collaboration among families, communities, the judiciary, and law enforcement to ensure child protection nationwide.
