PRINCE AL-WALEED BIN KHALED BIN TALAL AL SAUD, ‘THE SLEEPING PRINCE’, DIES AFTER 19 YEARS IN COMA

Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, a member of the Saudi royal family who became internationally known as “The Sleeping Prince,” has died at the age of 36 after spending nearly 20 years in a coma.

His death was confirmed on Saturday, July 19, in Riyadh.Prince Al-Waleed, the son of Prince Khaled bin Talal and the nephew of Saudi billionaire Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, sustained severe brain injuries in a car accident in London in 2005 while studying at a military academy.

He fell into a coma and was flown back to the Kingdom, where he remained in a semi-conscious state under continuous medical care.Over the years, the prince’s story resonated with millions across the Arab world and beyond, symbolizing unwavering parental love and enduring faith.

Despite numerous medical opinions suggesting minimal chances of recovery, his father refused to give up hope and ensured his son received the best possible care at the family’s private medical facility.

Occasionally, videos shared by the family on social media showed faint signs of movement or blinking, which many interpreted as miraculous signs of awareness.

These moments sparked widespread public interest and emotional support across Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.

His death marks the end of a poignant chapter that highlighted not just the fragility of life but also the strength of faith and family bonds in the face of overwhelming odds.

Funeral prayers for the late prince will be held on Sunday, July 20, in Riyadh.

Messages of condolence have since poured in from across the region, with many offering prayers for peace and comfort for the bereaved family.
